WJA – Pressure Washer Course (PW)

Minimum 6-hour session (Subject to Class Size and Safety Awareness Being Held)

For more information or to book with us

The WJA Pressure Washer Cleaning Equipment Course (PW) is a minimum 6-hour session designed for individuals operating pressure washer cleaning equipment and those managing and designing cleaning tasks using pressure washing equipment. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of surface preparation through theoretical and practical assessments, emphasizing operational skills, equipment safety, and more. The pressure washer card/certificate is valid for three years before it needs to be renewed for a further three years.

The training involves a balance of theory in a classroom environment and practical exercises using live water jetting equipment. It is open to new operational candidates, individuals refreshing their WJA card, managers, supervisors, site owners, permit issuers, and health and safety managers/officers.

This course can only be run for training around equipment where the pressure DOES NOT exceed 207 bar (3,000 psi) and flow 22 litres per minute (5 igpm). The training does NOT cover works that involves confined space entry into chambers, tanks, wet wells, or vessels. To carry out work in these conditions, operatives must have a recognised confined space entry course.

The course aims to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, highlighting the requirement for comprehensive knowledge and understanding to operate pressure washing equipment safely, including typical hazards, legal requirements, safety devices, competent persons, and health concerns.

The comprehensive training covers various topics, including the WJA Purple Code of Practice (Purple COP), pressure washer pumps, electrical power, accidents, jet velocities, safe use of heat and chemicals, types of nozzle, cleaning surfaces, tubes, and pipes, selection and inspection of hoses, safety devices, pressure washer system types, and health and safety protocols. Delegates completing the course will gain a deep understanding of pressure washing hazards, health and safety protocols, and the necessary actions to prevent water jetting injuries.

Pre-course requirements include being at least 18 years of age and having a good understanding of English. The course is designed for candidates seeking to renew their cards or new candidates wanting to undertake the standalone Pressure Washing Course training.
